Project Overview - Soil Rehabilitation and Plant Establishment (2021)
This project began in 2021, when initial soil testing revealed a pH level below 3. The first phase focused on correcting soil acidity through a rapid treatment plan aimed at raising the pH to an optimal 6.5. This process required four months of continuous soil monitoring and targeted interventions to stabilize the pH level and support overall soil health. Once the desired pH is achieved, the next phase centers on introducing and fostering a healthy soil biology to create a living, functional substrate capable of supporting long-term plant growth. Plant establishment was a key focus during this stage. The plant material used consisted of specimens initially grown in 36" boxes, which were transplanted into 5' x 6' planting holes within heavy clay soil. Each hole was backfilled using 100% compost.
